What the assessment tells you

If your soil cannot support a standard drain field, you can install a sewage holding tank instead.

We dig test pits, log what the soil does with water, and measure the setbacks your lot has to hold. Soil results tell us which system type your property requires and how large it needs to be. If test pits reveal unworkable soil, provincial rules allow you to install a holding tank.

What goes into the design

A ROWP designs Type 1 and Type 2 systems under 9,100 litres per day. Above that you need a professional.

We size the system to your daily design flow, pick the dispersal method the soil supports, and draw it. Under our ROWP registration, we design Type 1 and Type 2 systems. Anything beyond that needs a professional.

How the soil decides the shape of the system

We dig test pits and log the soil before we draw any part of the design.

Your soil conditions determine how we disperse wastewater, shaping the majority of your system design.

When soil drains well and space allows, a basic gravity drain field provides the most affordable solution. If soil drains slowly, we install a pressure-dosed setup to spread wastewater evenly across your field. We construct a sand mound above ground level when native soil is too shallow or tight.

We dig test pits and analyze the soil to decide which option fits your property best. That is the whole reason we dig before we draw.

Before we start digging, we file your property layout, system specs, and application forms.

Before building begins, we file the form, site plans, and technical specifications directly with Island Health. Island Health receives it and checks it against minimum criteria. We hold full responsibility for making sure your septic design functions properly on your lot.

What if the lot will not take a system?
