Pump-Outs and Repairs in Willow Point

Campbell River Septic pumps out and repairs septic systems throughout Willow Point, a neighbourhood in the south end of the City of Campbell River. We are a Registered Onsite Wastewater Practitioner, and we charge $400 to $750 for a single-family tank pump-out.

A Willow Point pump-out runs $400 to $750. A distribution box replacement runs $800 to $2,500.

Willow Point is part of the city, not its own municipality

Willow Point sits inside the City of Campbell River, one of the five member municipalities of the Strathcona Regional District.

That matters for who you deal with. Building work at this end goes to the municipality, whose building bylaw is Building Bylaw 3899, 2023. Your septic filing is separate and goes to Island Health, wherever in the region you are.

What we do most often in Willow Point

Not maintaining a system is one of the leading causes of premature failure.

Most of our calls at this end of town are pump-outs and the repairs that follow one. We clean or swap the effluent filter, replace a cracked distribution box lid, and make the septic repairs to pumps and floats that follow.

If your sinks and showers have started draining slowly, that is usually where a failure begins, so tell us that when you call. A slow drain caught early is usually a repair to a part. Left until sewage is ponding on the surface, it is usually the dispersal field.

What you should keep off your field

Water lines must be kept at least three metres from the distribution field.

Do not grow vegetables or food crops over your system. Grass is the recommendation, kept clear of larger roots. Keep underground lawn sprinkler lines off the distribution field entirely.

Does your system have a pump alarm?

A pump needs a float and an alarm. We test all three while we are on site.

Not every system has a pump. A Type 1 system is defined by its treatment level rather than by gravity, so plenty of them run on gravity distribution alone and have nothing electrical to fail.

If your system has a pump, it has a float and it should have an alarm. The alarm is what tells you the pump has stopped.

We test it while we are there. It takes about a minute and it is easily the cheapest part of the visit. If it does not sound, we replace it, and you have a working warning on the pump again.

Septic work in Willow Point, in practice

We reroute a sprinkler line rather than rebuild the field it crosses.

What does a job like this look like?

The situation

A homeowner puts in an underground sprinkler system and runs a line straight across the dispersal field.

What makes it harder

Sprinkler lines are not allowed over the distribution field, and the water line is sitting closer than it should be.

What we do

We reroute the run so every water line keeps at least three metres clear of the field. You keep the sprinklers you paid for, and the field carries on working.

Questions from this end of town

How much of my yard can I actually use?

Most of it. Grass over the system is the recommendation, kept clear of larger roots. What you cannot do is grow vegetables or food crops over it, and you cannot run sprinkler lines across the distribution field.

Can I water the garden with the laundry water?

Not the way most people mean. Greywater is sewage once it leaves the building, so garden use needs an Authorized Person's designed system with a filing behind it, applied below ground and restricted to non-food crops. Putting it on the surface is illegal.

The drains are slow but nothing has backed up. Do I wait?

No, call us now. Slowly draining sinks, showers and tubs is where failure starts, and it is much cheaper to deal with at that stage than after sewage is ponding on the surface.

Would an additive help in the meantime?

No. Septic tank additives are not recommended, there are no proven benefits, and in some cases they harm the system. Put the money toward a pump-out instead.
